This section applies to all Services involving pregnancy- or postpartum-related content, including but not limited to RYC® Bump & Birth (Schedule F) and any pregnancy- or postpartum-related content referenced within other RYC® programs.
6.1 Not a Substitute for Obstetric or Midwifery Care
Pregnancy- and postpartum-related content offered through the Services is educational and movement-based. It is not a substitute for:
- Regular prenatal or postpartum care from your physician, obstetrician, or midwife
- Individualized clinical assessment of your pregnancy, labor, delivery, or postpartum recovery
- Emergency obstetric or medical care
6.2 Provider Consultation
You are responsible for determining, in consultation with your physician, obstetrician, or midwife, whether it is appropriate for you to participate in any movement, exercise, or birth-preparation content offered through the Services, given your individual pregnancy, medical history, and stage of pregnancy or postpartum recovery. This is particularly important if you have, or develop, any pregnancy complication or high-risk condition.
If your medical status or provider’s guidance changes at any point during your use of the Services, you should pause participation and consult your provider before resuming.
6.3 General Pregnancy and Postpartum Red-Flag Symptoms
In addition to the general guidance in Section 6, stop and consult your physician, obstetrician, or midwife immediately if you experience any of the following during pregnancy or postpartum:
- Vaginal bleeding or unusual discharge
- Fluid leakage
- Contractions, cramping, or pelvic pain that is unexpected for your stage
- Reduced or absent fetal movement
- Sudden swelling of the face, hands, or feet
- Severe or persistent headache, or visual disturbances
- Any symptom that feels abnormal to you, even if not listed here
This list is general and illustrative, not exhaustive or diagnostic. It does not replace guidance from your own healthcare provider, who is familiar with your individual pregnancy or postpartum history.
6.4 Nature of Bump & Birth Content
All RYC® Bump & Birth content, regardless of who delivers it or their background, is educational and preparatory in nature. It is not clinical care, and no instructor’s credentials or qualifications change that. This content does not constitute clinical labor support, medical decision-making, or a replacement for the role of your medical provider or, where separately engaged, your own doula.
